Final Cut Pro X Basics

A few basics to get you started:

Create an Event (a place for your video project)
File>New>Event

Import Video
File>Import>Media
Select video + Import Media button

Options:
Files:
-Select “Copy to library”

Transcoding
-Select “Create optimized media”

To move clips to Storyline
-Click + hold + drag (creates yellow box)
-Drag and drop to storyline

To set in and out points
In point – Put cursor on beginning of clip + I key
Out point – Put cursor at end of clip + O key

Magnify storyline
-Use zoom tool at bottom of screen

Adjust volume
-Click on waveform under the clip and move up and down

Editing tools
-Click on down arrow next to <][> icon

Add transitions
-Select box on right
-Drag and drop transitions between clips

Add Title card
-Select T
-Drag and drop card into storyline. Double click on title card.
-Go to viewer to type

Add Export File Destination
File>Share
>Add Destination
Drag the icon for Export File to the menu on the left
Close the window

To Export
File>Share
Select Export File icon
Click on Settings
Set Video Codec to H.264
1280 X 720 resolution
Click Next
Save to your Desktop or other location

Export Still Image for Thumbnail
Add Still Image Destination
File>Share
>Add Destination
Drag the icon for Save Current Frame to the menu on the left
Close the window

To export your still image
File>Share
Select Save Current Frame icon
Click on Settings
Set to .jpg
Click Next
Save to your Desktop or other location

Back Up Project to External Drive
Moving Final Cut Pro X Project to an External Hard Drive video (UMW NewMedia)
