Hey guys! Just a tip: If you’re looking to interview places that you have to go through PR/Marketing people first, do it now! Sometimes it takes a week just to respond to e-mails. It’s frustrating, but don’t be afraid to call AND e-mail in the same hour.

If you’re having trouble thinking of an idea, go to http://www.camdencounty.com/ or http://www.co.gloucester.nj.us/ ….They’re the official Websites for Gloucester and Camden Counties if you don’t feel like traveling too far for your story. There, you’ll find contacts that hold government office, calendars of events, etc. Sometimes, when I’m trying to find ideas for a story I just browse the local newspaper Websites like The Vineland Daily Journal or the Courier-Post. It doesn’t have to be the same story just because the original idea was found on these sites.

Recently, I did a garden/outdoor home story for the Courier-Post (which is yet to be published). I featured Lily Pond Emporium, LLC (http://www.lilypondemporium.info/ ) because they are basically your one-stop-shop for all pond-building needs, including fish. Apparently, the recent economy crisis has led less people to invest in building their own ponds, but there are still a huge chunk of people out there who are making them. I linked their business in case anyone is interested because they’re holding an open house seminar on how to successfully open and maintain your pond for the season on March 19 at 12 p.m. It’s being taught by the owner’s brother-in-law. This might be a good feature somehow … research how many people have koi ponds in NJ.. why is it a big thing? …might be useful for another class too.

Just a few ideas…. If I think of anything else, I’ll post them. Let me know if you need any help. Shoot me an e-mail.

  2. Hey….For anyone interested in doing a story on flags:

In North Jersey, there’s a place called The Red Mill Museum in Clinton. I found this randomly, and they’re having an event on:
    WHEN: April 9….
WHAT: “Stitching Together a Nation” A talk about flag construction, care and conservation
TIME: Saturday, 1-3pm. $5 admission for the general public.

Here’s their website for contact info: http://www.theredmill.org/calendarofevents.html
